Is it true that except for Southwest airlines, you are only allowed one suitcase now to check in?

Last year you were allowed 2 suitcases per person and they had to be less then 50 pounds. Now today I was told by a travel agent the limit is just one. Is this true and when did the change happen? Is it true that except for Southwest airlines, you are only allowed one suitcase now to check in?
If you are flying coach then you are allowed one FREE suitcase per person. You could check a second suitcase, but it would cost you about $10 - $25. A third suitcase would cost you $50 to $100. This assumes the suitcases weigh under 50 pounds.

If you are flying business or first class you can still check two suitcases for free.

If the bags weigh over 50 pounds, then there is a separate charge for that. The overweight charge applies to each bag (including the first one) that is over 50 pounds.

This also applies just to flights within the United States. International flights have a different set of rules. Is it true that except for Southwest airlines, you are only allowed one suitcase now to check in?
that is now true for most airlines. they only allow one free bag, and will have you pay to check more bags. this is to help offset the rising fuel prices.
I think the travel agent is bit confused

some airlines will *charge* for a 2nd bag but will still allow you to check it so yes you could still check 2 bags

but the airline will charge you for 2nd suitcase
better check with your airline directly. i'm not aware of that rule too.
