Is it true there is some kind of bird that flies above 35,000 feet to catch the air currents?

What if you are in a jet cruising ';safely'; at full altitude and suddenly the engines are struck by a flock of these lofty birds?

How can these birds breathe and survive way up there? 200 mph winds at 60 degrees below zero?Is it true there is some kind of bird that flies above 35,000 feet to catch the air currents?
