Is it true you can drink at home with your parents legally?

This kid in my class says his mom works for social services and its in their handbook that you can according to him... Ive never heard about it and im in 10th grade advanced classes so i pretty much keep up with the news. Has anyone else?Is it true you can drink at home with your parents legally?
Yes, this is nothing new but it depends on the state. In a few states it is illegal for minors to consume alcohol for any reason. However, the majority of states do have exceptions to their underage drinking laws to allow for consumption with parents permission, consumption for religious reasons, consumption if married to someone of legal age to drink.

EDIT: kosm, I live in WA state. Here the exceptions to the underage drinking law are

鈥? parent/guardian presence and consent

鈥? one or more specified religious, educational, or medical purposesIs it true you can drink at home with your parents legally?
Depends on State law.

There are only 9 US States where it is illegal for a person under 21 to drink ';anywhere'; except under a religious exemption. In the other States it depends on the circumstances.

In most States it is legal for a person under 21 to drink in their OWN home with their parents present. In some, the parents need onloy 'consent', not be physically present. In a few, persons under 21 can drink in any private home, not just their own, as long as they have their parents consent.

There are limitations, though. In NY, for example, it's illegal for the minor to drink enough to put their BAC over 0.02% - so you're talking one glass of wine for a teen, watered wine for anyone less than that.

It is legal in some states, but not in others. Many states laws only say that it is illegal to give a minor alcohol in a public place, unless for religious purposes.

But I'm sure that any state could find a law to charge a parent with if their child becomes a habitual abuser of alcohol under their supervision.

Completly false. If the police found out that an adult or the parent gave a minor alcohol at any time and under any circumstances, that adult would be charged with abuse and contributing to the deliquency of a minor. It isn't a minor charge. You r friend has no idea what he or she is talking about. Someone is lying. I know for a fact that this is a lie. You really want solid proof, call your local police dept. and ask them.

EDIT to the poster above me...where do you live? In my state they would haul you away for giving your kid a sip of wine.
Sadly, yes. And the result, and increase in teen drinking/alcoholism. A sip of wine for dinner, maybe OK. But buying your kid beer for his party, asking for trouble.
It depends on state laws. You need to call a states attorneys office, or consult the law library at your local outlet.
not in Indiana, they throw the parents in jail for contributing to a minor
I take it as you were nit adult yet.Ok

You can do at home with your parents anything they let you to do or anything that is known by them for you to do. This is the parents responsibility not yours to bring you up -the way that they love you.

When you are adult then you take this responsibility over gradually moving away and starting your own new life. The law can not interfere in the way that parents bring up their children unless- the case of violence which the meaning also is corrupted by media and lawyers and people that often abuse the law or the own kind.

The legality of many kinds and thousands of trivial laws are created by lawyers of this world to control people and keep lawyers busy and take away love from people because love remove crime and crime creates revenue for courts. Therefor legality not necessary should be always matters. For example:The lie is a bad thing but when its intension is good it could turn to good and pure as crystal.

There is at the end law above all laws. Love one another. Do not mix law and rights with family . Rather mix family with love and forgiveness. Guarantied happiness of your whole family and when you adult to have a drink with parents would be only a part of your daily meal. Have a good day . Adam and Eve
