Is it true that Navajo Native Americans do not buy or sell animals?

I am looking to rehome my dog and I was contacted by someone who says he is native american, specifically Navajo, and that they do not believe in buying or selling animals. He said this to let me know that if I had a rehoming fee that he would not be interested. Is this true?Is it true that Navajo Native Americans do not buy or sell animals?
sounds strange. i'm native..not navaho, but i've never heard such a thing. i know a lot of natives in the southwest are ranchers. i'm sure they don't give their animals away. beware when someone says they are native. most aren't. they are called pretindiansIs it true that Navajo Native Americans do not buy or sell animals?
Well if he actually said that he won't be interested then he's not interested so that really has nothing to do with being Native ';American';. Then again him being Native ';American'; also helps his statement because they are usually more respectful to nature. Also noted by the fact that they don't believe (this is just according to school textbooks, not real life experience) in the ability to own land so the same must be for those who inhabit it. Since you have gotten some real life experience with a supposedly real life Native ';American'; then I guess that means that they don't buy or sell them. Yes there was a story not to long ago about the Navajo and NASA. You see NASA was working near a Navajo community and decided it would be nice to see if the Navajo had anything to say so that they could send it up in a space shuttle in a recorder and play it out there. So the NASA men went to the Navajo community and asked some random person what he wanted to say. He said it and when the NASA man asked what he had said the Navajo man wouldn't tell him. So the NASA man asked all around town only to be turned down by everyone after they finished laughing so he paid someone to tell him. It said ';Be careful they come to take your land';.
There are PLENTY of Indian Cattlemen, sheep raisers, etc.

HOWEVER, PETS are FAMILY.

Would you sell a family member?

I do know a dog breeder that is Dine (navajo) and she does charge for the dogs she sells, BUT she also gives about the same amount in food, shots, etc for the dog.
I have been married to my husband for quite a while now and he is dine(navajo) traditionally it is not right to buy or sell any animals used for pets they will buy to feed the family cattle, sheep, chickens and most of the time they trade for other items we beleive animals need to be respected and only used for food protection or herding many dogs that we have are treated like family members so it just isn't right to buy or sell them. i hope this helps... good luck!
