Is it true people can upload files to your computer using a P2P program, such a limewire, without you knowing?

P2P software is used for sharing but can someone upload files to your computer without you knowing about it. Obviously you both have the same software installed. Is it true people can upload files to your computer using a P2P program, such a limewire, without you knowing?
I think the answer is no, not as such. But a huge number of the sharing sites/computers used by P2P programs are stuffed full of viruses (and/or other malware). If you are careless and catch one of these then after that someone can pretty much do what they like with your computer without you knowing and it will quickly end up stuffed full of viruses as well!Is it true people can upload files to your computer using a P2P program, such a limewire, without you knowing?
There are 2 parts to this answer:

Part 1:

Well any executable program can carry a virus or trojan, as can some media file types. The most common trick is to make something appear as it's not to entice you to download and install it. The latest software or movie, a really popular song etc.

Simply put any place there is pirated software and media there is a much increased risk of viruses, trojans and malwear.

Mostly though you have to make the decision to download, but then that's what you're on limewire for, so it's just a simple spot of social engineering to make it attractive to download.

If you use P2P then you take the risk. There are more commonly infected files than others, cracks for software are a big one.

Part 2:

If you use a P2P file sharing application then you have invariably had to change your firewall to let the traffic through and you no doubt used the standard port settings. So, you have an open port and are using a very common application, it doesn't take a genius to work out how to exploit that.
Yes, if the wrong piece of malware gets on your machine. Typical symptom is a drastic loss of free disk space. Drastic. That's the only purpose for such malware: to use your machine and as many others as it can get as storage devices.

Hope you don't have some.
no you have to download the file 1st, but once its on your computer then people can do what they want.
Simple answer ... Yes
