Is it true abstinence is the only contraceptive taught in schools?

It's not even mentioned in British sex ed, it's not a form of contraceptive, it's just a life style choice isn't it?Is it true abstinence is the only contraceptive taught in schools?
my school in jersey teaches safe sexIs it true abstinence is the only contraceptive taught in schools?
Well, in America all they have is abstinence only. No mention of condoms. Last week my school showed a weird video of abstinence of a couple throwing up on each other and then making out. Didn't really work. It is a life choice, though. No idea if it's working.
If you're interpreting the word ';contraceptive'; to be ';a way to avoid pregnancy/STDs'; then, yes, abstinence is certainly a way to avoid pregnancy and STDs.

If you interpret ';contraceptive'; as being ';something that enables you to engage in sexual activity with ZERO chance of pregnancy or disease'; then you're looking for something that doesn't exist.

There is NO form of contraception that is 100% effective but abstinence so if you're going to be having sex you need to know that there COULD be consequences to that. I'm not gonna tell you that I didn't have sex before marriage...I did...but I did it with the knowledge that I may have become a father or contracted a disease as a result.

Sex is an ADULT behavior. Before you have it, make sure you're prepared to take RESPONSIBILITY for whatever may happen as a result.
Well...

I went to a convent school...

a VERY long time ago...

and I'd have to say...

YES!
no. i took health last year and we had a unit on a variety of birth-control methods. we covered everything from sterilization of the man or woman to ';the morning after pill';. but, abstinence is stressed as the only 100% way to avoid pregnancy. even sterilization is listed as 99% rather then 100%
its a choice, yes.
We weren't really even taught about abstinence. But we did have to watch a birthing tape... i didn't look
Hi. I'm an Aussie teacher. We teach all forms of contraception, with abstinence falling under the 'natural methods' heading (with withdrawal and the rhythm method etc). We also teach others like hormonal methods (eg the pill) and barrier methods (eg condoms).

It's important to give kids all the options.

I'm at a public school.
Depends on the type of school you go to. When I went to Catholic school all I remember talking about was that. Thats of course because they dont want you having sex before marriage and because they dont believe in birth control pills or condoms. But then I went to public school and they talked about everything! Even one specific day during your 'Health' class where a nurse came in and told the guys(in one room) and the girls (in another) all about the different types of contraceptives.
Some schools, thanks to moronic religious influences that refuse to recognize reality, choose this idiotic option. Said programs result in the same or higher pregnancy and STD rates.
Its not mentioned here in Australian public schoools here either. It would save a lot of problems such as unplanned pregnancies etc.
no some schools still teach of safe sex ...but not many
Not only are schools teaching anything but abstinence, but they are also providing condoms and allowing girls to have abortions without their parent's knowledge or consent.

It has become a lifestyle choice in America only because since the 1960's so called sexual revolution, this country has no moral compass and there are no moral absolutes to guide anybodies behavior.
I hate to say it but here in Texas there isn't much sex education of any kind so I guess that abstinence only does sort of fit the description.
