Is it true that you can no longer donate blood after getting a tattoo?

I've never been a person that has been convinced to get one but there is a tattoo that I really want. Though I have been told that I can no longer donate blood after getting a tattoo. Is it True?

My dilemma is either get the tattoo and be happy with it or I can help a lot of people since my blood type is O.Is it true that you can no longer donate blood after getting a tattoo?

You do have to wait a year if you got a tattoo in a licensed shop, it's only if it was given in unsanitary conditions like someone's house that you get permanently banned from donating. If you decide to go for the tattoo, just donate first and get the tattoo a few days later so you have some recovery time. Either that or if it's just the design you like, you could have it put on a t-shirt through a local shop or something like VistaPrint. It's more convenient than redoing henna tattoos when they wear off and cheaper %26amp; easier than a real one, just not quite the same gratifying permanence. ;)
You only have to wait a year.
